Abstract

This study aimed to improve student achievement in social studies subjects for class VIII-5 social studies at SMP Negeri 1 Pringgasela through the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The type of research conducted by the researcher is Classroom Action Research. The researcher himself carried out this research as a teacher who was kept at SMP Negeri 1 Pringgasela. The main problem studied in this study is the learning outcomes of social studies lessons for class VIII-5 of SMP Negeri 1 Pringgasela for the 2018/20 academic year, which collected 32 students. Classroom Action Research using two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings. The findings of this study indicate an increase in social studies learning outcomes for class VIII-5 SMP Negeri 1 Pringgasela; this can be seen from the results of the implementation of the cycle I and cycle II. In the process I, the average score was 67.17, the lowest score was 50, and the highest score was 80. Of the 32 students who took the test, 24 reached the KKM and 8 had not completed with a proportion of completeness of 76.67%. In the second cycle, the average value was 74.38; the lowest score was 50, and the highest score was 90, which showed an increase which. Showed 29 students had reached the KKM of 32 students, and the remaining three students had not completed, with completeness criteria going 90.68%. It can be said that the application of Problem Based Learning mode can improve students' social studies learning outcomes.
