POLA ASUH IBU TUNGGAL TERHADAP PERILAKU ANAK

The primary focus of this qualitative study is to examine the parenting styles of single mothers in Jatirejo Village, Demak, Central Java, and how these styles influence children’s behavior. The study aims to identify the forms of parenting practiced by single mothers, the factors that shape these practices, and the behavioral outcomes observed in their children. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving single mothers, their children, and neighbors. The findings show that while single mothers demonstrate strong responsibility in meeting their children’s physical needs and educational support, they face challenges in establishing emotional bonds and maintaining open communication. Children tend to suppress their emotions and rely more on peers for emotional support. Using Bourdieu’s theory of habitus, the study reveals that cultural values, emotional pressures, and economic constraints shape a parenting habitus that prioritizes discipline but lacks affective warmth. This pattern is then reproduced in the child’s social behavior. The study concludes that limited social and economic capital contributes to the development of emotional distance and resilience strategies among children in single mother households. These findings are expected to inform parenting interventions and community support programs for single parent families.
