Child labor is a social phenomenon shaped not only by household poverty but also by family conditions, education, peer environment, and access to informal work. This study describes the characteristics of child workers and analyzes the factors encouraging children to work in North Masbagik Village, East Lombok, using Alfred Schutz’s social phenomenology. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving 16 informants: 10 child workers and 6 supporting informants from the surrounding community and workplaces. Data validity was examined through source and theoretical triangulation, while analysis involved data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that all child workers were boys aged 14–17 years; seven had dropped out of school and three were still attending school. Their jobs included workshops, daily labor, grocery stores, and food-related activities, with daily earnings of Rp20,000–Rp90,000. The because motives included poverty, parental physical conditions, parental education and employment, parental gambling-related family problems, easy access to work, and peer influence. The in-order-to motives were helping family needs, fulfilling personal needs, and supporting schooling.
