Abstract

The low level of science literacy among elementary school students requires innovative learning approaches that can connect scientific concepts with real-life experiences. This study aimed to develop a STEAM-based teaching module that is valid, practical, and effective in improving students’ science literacy. The research employed a research and development method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The subjects were fifth grade students of SDN 1 Bandok. The results revealed that the developed module was valid, practical, and effective. Expert validation confirmed the module’s feasibility in terms of content, language, and design. Teachers’ and students’ responses to the practicality of the module were in the “very good” category. Effectiveness testing showed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with the average pretest score of 59.57 increasing to 82 in the posttest, and an N-Gain score of 0.56 (moderate category). Observations indicated active student engagement during learning, and students’ responses toward the module were positive. Therefore, the teaching module has been proven to enhance science literacy, foster active student participation, and promote positive attitudes toward science learning. Consequently, the STEAM-based teaching module is feasible to be used as an alternative science teaching material in elementary schools, in accordance with the demands of the Kurikulum Merdeka.
