Abstract

The main problem in this study was the low gross motor skills of children in Group B2 at Cendekia Tadulako Kindergarten, particularly in terms of leg muscle strength, balance, and walking speed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of playing the traditional coconut shell game on improving children's gross motor skills in these three aspects. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 10 children selected through saturation sampling. Data were collected through observation using validated instruments and analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement. The percentage of children in the Very Good Development (VGD) category increased from 0% to 90% for leg muscle strength, from 0% to 50% for balance, and from 0% to 40% for walking speed. The average gross motor score rose from 5.70 to 10.20. Statistical tests produced a significance value of 0.005 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study proves that the traditional coconut shell engrang game is effective and significant in improving the gross motor skills of early childhood, so it is recommended as a contextual learning medium in the PAUD curriculum.

The problem in this research lies in the gross motor skills of children. This study aims to determine the effect of the traditional game of engrang batok kelapa on the gross motor skills of children in group B2 of Cendekia Tadulako Kindergarten. This research uses a descriptive quantitative research method. The subjects of this research consist of 10 children, consisting of 4 boys and 6 girls in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The data collection technique was carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data processing was conducted using percentage formulas. Based on the observation results before and after the treatment, the children's gross motor skills in the aspect of leg muscle strength standing on coconut shell BSB increased from 0% to 90%, the BSH category from 6% to 10%, the MB category from 40% to 0%, and the BB category remained the same at 0%. Meanwhile, in the second aspect, which is the balance aspect of walking on coconut shells without falling, the BSB category increased from 0% to 50%, the BSH category from 10% to 50%, while the MB and BB categories remained the same at 0%. Meanwhile, the second aspect, which is the balance aspect of walking with coconut shells without falling, improved for the BSB category from 0% to 50%, for the BSH category from 10% to 50%, and remained the same at 0% for both the MB and BB categories. The last aspect is the speed of walking with coconut shells, with the BSB category increasing from 0% to 60%, the BSH category from 0% to 30%, the MB category decreasing from 40% to 30%, and the BB category decreasing from 60% to 0%. In addition, the t-value calculated is 6.548 with a significance of 0.000 because it is <0.05, therefore it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and H1 is accepted, meaning there is an effect of the traditional game of walking on coconut shells on the gross motor skills of children in group B2 of TK Cendekia Tadulako .
