Abstract

Freestyle swimming skills are a mandatory competency for Physical Education students, but many still experience obstacles such as unstreamlined body position, irregular breathing, and poor movement coordination, often caused by a conventional learning approach that lacks structure. This study aims to analyze the effect of structured learning methods on improving students' freestyle swimming skills. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The sample consisted of 30 students divided into an experimental group (receiving structured learning for 16 sessions) and a control group (conventional learning). Skills were measured using the JRT freestyle swimming test (JRT-FST). The results of the analysis showed that the experimental group experienced a very significant increase in average technique scores of 21.27 points, while the control group only increased by 3.93 points. An independent t-test confirmed a very significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.000). It was concluded that the structured learning method was significantly more effective in improving freestyle swimming skills than the conventional method.
