Abstract

Digitalization has changed the landscape of the sports industry, particularly through the emergence of esports as a global phenomenon that integrates technology, economics, and social interaction. However, this transformation faces complex challenges such as digital literacy gaps, ethical issues surrounding data use, unequal access to technology, and the lack of a comprehensive governance framework. This study aims to analyze the relationship between digitization, social capital, athlete autonomy, and economic strategies in the modern sports industry, as well as to formulate recommendations for sustainable digital governance. The method used is a systematic literature-based synthesis with thematic analysis of 24 selected articles from indexed databases. The results show that esports acts as a catalyst for strengthening social capital and community welfare. AI and blockchain technologies increase athlete autonomy while creating new dependencies on corporate platforms, while interactive communication gives rise to a value co-creation-based engagement economy. The conclusion of this study confirms that the digital transformation of sports is multidimensional and interrelated. Its sustainability requires inclusive digital governance, regulations that protect digital rights.
