Implementasi Project Based Learning Melalui Pembelajaran Bola Voli dalam Pembentukan Berpikir Kritis Siswa SMP

This study was motivated by issues in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) instruction particularly in volleyball which still predominantly relies on conventional technical repetition methods, thereby failing to sufficiently stimulate students’ critical thinking skills. This study aims to determine the effect of implementing Project-Based Learning (PjBL) through volleyball instruction on the development of critical thinking skills among junior high school students. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The study population consisted of all eighth-grade students at Tunas Utama Junior High School in Karawang for the 2025/2026 academic year, with a sample of 15 students selected through purposive sampling. A critical thinking test instrument based on Facione’s six indicators (interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation) was used for data collection. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and the parametric inferential test, the Paired Samples t-test, with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics 25. The results showed an increase in the average score from 30.00 (High category) on the pretest to 37.00 (Very High category) on the posttest. The hypothesis test yielded a calculated t-value of -9.853 with a significance level of 0.000 (Sig. 2-tailed < 0.05). This study concludes that the implementation of Project-Based Learning through volleyball instruction has a positive and significant effect on the development of critical thinking skills among junior high school students.
