Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of fartlek and continuous run training and training motivation on VO₂max and leg muscle endurance. This study employed an experimental method with a 2 × 2 factorial design. The population consisted of 26 male students in the basketball extracurricular program at SMA YPPK Teruna Bakti, with a sample of 24 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected through pretest and posttest using the beep test and wall sit test, while training motivation was measured using a validated questionnaire. Data analysis used two-way ANOVA at a significance level of α = 0.05, followed by the Tukey test. The results indicate that: (1) there is a significant difference between fartlek and continuous run on vo₂max (F = 29.066, p < 0.05) and leg muscle endurance (F = 6.328, p < 0.05), with fartlek being more effective; (2) there is a significant difference between high and low training motivation on VO₂max (F = 203.664, p < 0.05) and leg muscle endurance (F = 22.578, p < 0.05), with high motivation being more effective; and (3) there is a significant interaction between training methods and training motivation on vo₂max (F = 5.766, p < 0.05) and leg muscle endurance (F = 17.578, p < 0.05). The conclusion is that fartlek combined with high motivation is the most effective in improving vo₂max and leg muscle endurance.
