Peran Dokter Raden Soedjono dalam Pengobatan Tradisional dan Medis pada Masyarakat Tetebatu Lombok Timur, 1921-1944

This study examines the role of Dr. Raden Soedjono in traditional and medical treatment for the people of Tetebatu Village, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency, from 1921 to 1944. The background of this research is based on the importance of health services in Indonesian history, especially during the Dutch colonial period when medical personnel were very limited. This study aims to describe: (1) the history of Dr. Raden Soedjono's arrival to Tetebatu Village; (2) his role as a doctor in carrying out treatment; and (3) the impact of traditional and medical treatment on the community. This research uses a qualitative approach with the historical method, including heuristics (data collection through interviews, documents, and photographs), source criticism (external and internal), interpretation, and historiography. The findings reveal that Dr. Raden Soedjono, a STOVIA graduate, was sent by the Dutch Colonial Government to Lombok in 1910 to eradicate smallpox, leprosy, cholera, and malaria. After retiring, he came to Tetebatu in 1921 driven by personal desire to find a comfortable place for farming and gardening while still providing health services. Dr. Raden Soedjono was known as "Doctor Belian" because he used two treatment methods: traditional herbal medicine and modern medical treatment. His presence significantly impacted community health, introducing new treatment approaches and providing free health services. This study contributes to the historical understanding of health development in East Lombok and the integration of traditional and modern medical practices.
