This study examines the management of public space in the Labuhan Haji Beach tourism area, East Lombok Regency, focusing on the balance between economic opportunities and emerging social challenges. Employing a qualitative case study design, this research involved observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving coffee shop vendors, visitors, beach managers, and village authorities. The findings indicate that coffee shops play a strategic role in supporting the local community’s economy, with increasing economic contributions on both weekdays and weekends. However, the presence of enclosed seating facilities provided to attract visitors has also generated social challenges, including norm-violating activities such as hugging, kissing, and alcohol consumption among visitors. These challenges are driven by weak social control and the absence of written regulations governing conduct within the tourism area. This study recommends strengthening social control mechanisms through regulation, supervision, education, and collaboration among managers, vendors, village authorities, and local communities to create a productive tourism ecosystem while preserving social and religious values.
