Abstract

The names of traditional foods reflect aspects of a region's culture and also hold deeper meanings than simply the uniqueness of the food. This study aims to describe the meaning of Wonosobo's specialty food names from an ethnosemantic perspective, thus enabling a deeper understanding of the relationship between language and culture among local residents. The method used is a qualitative descriptive research method with data collection and analysis techniques through interviews and literature reviews. The data obtained were analyzed using methods such as data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results show that there are 27 Wonosobo specialty foods classified into two forms of lingual units: 12 words and 15 phrases. These words consist of acronyms and original names in Javanese, this is related to ethnosemantics, where the theory discusses language and culture, while phrases are categorized based on processing method, region of origin, and basic ingredients of the food. The implications of this study indicate that the naming of specialty foods not only functions as culinary identity but also reflects local wisdom and cultural values passed down from generation to generation. This research can serve as a reference in linguistic and cultural studies, as well as support efforts to preserve regional culinary heritage.
