KAJIAN EKOKRITIK PADA NOVEL DANUM: HUBUNGAN DAN KONFLIK MANUSIA DENGAN ALAM SERTA KRISIS LINGKUNGAN

Abstract

Danum by Abroorza A. Yusra uses an ecocritical approach to examine environmental issues. The aim is to identify and describe the relationship between humans and nature, the conflict between humans and nature, and the representation of the environmental crisis depicted in the novel. The novel, Danum, was chosen because it explicitly depicts the dynamics of human-nature conflict in the Kalimantan landscape. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis methods. Data were collected through literature review by analyzing relevant quotations, dialogue, and narratives from the novel. Ecocritical theory is used as a conceptual framework to interpret the data, identify anthropocentric perspectives, and their impact on the environment. The results show that this novel represents three core ecocritical studies. First, the human-nature relationship is depicted in various behavioral patterns, ranging from functional to creative to spiritual. Second, the human-nature conflict is not only physical, such as illegal logging, but also ideological, such as hunting for prestige. Third, the environmental crisis is manifested through descriptions of massive environmental damage and its impact on the community's socio-cultural values. Danum functions not only as a fictional narrative but also as a medium of criticism and a cultural artifact that records landscape changes and fosters readers' ecological awareness.
