Article Retraction & Withdrawal
The Voices of English Language Education Society (VELES) journal upholds the highest ethical publishing standards to ensure the integrity and credibility of academic research. The journal follows established guidelines for retraction and withdrawal of articles to maintain transparency and accountability. Authors, reviewers, and readers are encouraged to adhere to ethical research practices, and any violations may result in retraction or withdrawal, as outlined below.
1. Retraction
Articles published in the Voices of English Language Education Society (VELES) journal may be retracted if there is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest errors (e.g., miscalculation or experimental mistakes). Retraction may also occur if the article has been previously published elsewhere without proper cross-referencing, permission, or justification (i.e., redundant publication), if it constitutes plagiarism, or if it reports unethical research practices.
The retraction process follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Retraction Guidelines, which can be accessed at COPE Retraction Guidelines.
2. Withdrawal of Manuscripts
Authors are strongly discouraged from withdrawing submitted manuscripts, as the review and editorial process requires substantial time and effort from editors, reviewers, and the publisher. Manuscript withdrawal disrupts academic integrity and resource management.
If an author requests withdrawal while the manuscript is still under peer review, a withdrawal penalty of IDR 2,500,000.00 per manuscript must be paid to the publisher. Additionally, withdrawing a manuscript after it has been accepted for publication is considered highly unethical, especially if it has been submitted to another journal.
If an author withdraws a manuscript after acceptance, a withdrawal penalty of IDR 4,000,000.00 per manuscript must be paid before the withdrawal request is processed. Withdrawal is only permitted once the publisher receives full payment of the penalty. If the author refuses to pay, both the author and their affiliated institution will be blacklisted from submitting to VELES in the future. Previously published articles by the author may also be removed from the journal's online system.
For manuscript withdrawal requests, authors must contact the journal at velesjournal@gmail.com.
